How does the Limbs of Hope Foundation determine who receives a prosthetic device?

Are prosthetics custom made and if so how can someone reuse one?

How does the Limbs of Hope Foundation determine who receives a prosthetic device?

Because of product liability laws (refer to question 2), Limbs of Hope Foundation cannot distribute used prosthetics to individuals located in the United States. Limbs of Hope Foundation does not discriminate against individuals who need a prosthetic. In the past, we have raised funds to offer financial assistance to those individuals who are unable to afford a prosthetic. We will continue to do this as long as our help is needed. If an individual is having difficulties obtaining a prosthetic, Limbs of Hope Foundation will assign a representative to locate, in their area, possible donors and organizations that could aid in that purchase. International aid is available. Individuals must fill out an application. Upon it's receipt, LOHF will research all avenues to assist applicants in receiving proper care in prosthetic development.

What are product liability laws?

Product liability refers to the liability of any or all parties along the chain of manufacture of any product for damage caused by the product. This includes the manufacturer of the component parts, the assembling manufacturer, the wholesaler and the retail store owner. Products containing
inherent defects that cause harm to the consumer of the product, or someone to whom the product was loaned, given, etc., are subject of product liability suits.

Are prosthetics custom made and if so how can someone reuse one?

Yes prosthetic sockets are custom to each individual. Used prosthesis will be disassembled and rebuilt to suit each individual needs.

How does the prosthesis reach the recipient over seas?

Limbs of Hope Foundation travels to different areas of the globe to distribute prosthetics. On an individual basis, we attempt to contact a local organization within their country and set up necessary arrangements for a fitting. We are currently in the process of building a database of various resources available to amputees throughout the world.

How can I help?

By Donation or Volunteering. Refer to donation page or contact about volunteering.
